The book is called A Bad Case of Stripes and it’s written by David Shannon. I’ve read a lot of children’s books over the years, but this one really stands out—for both the story and the artwork.
So basically, the book is about this girl, Camilla Cream, who’s super worried about what other people think of her. She actually likes lima beans but won’t eat them because she thinks everyone will make fun of her. Then one day, she wakes up covered in these crazy rainbow stripes—and the more she tries to hide who she is, the weirder things get. Her skin keeps changing to match whatever people say, and it just spirals. It’s kind of hilarious but also has a really good message about just being yourself and not caring so much what others think.
how random and funny it gets. One minute she has stripes, then she's turning into all sorts of things just because she’s scared to be herself. The pictures are super colorful and kind of wild. It kept me (and my kid) interested the whole time because you never really knew what was coming next. But also, underneath all the weird stuff, it’s just a cool reminder that it’s okay to be different and like what you like—even if other people think it’s weird.
this book is good for little kids, like maybe 4 to 8ish. If your kid is into funny stories with weird stuff happening, they’ll probably like it. Also seems like something teachers could use in class to talk about being yourself and not worrying so much about what other people think.
